The NJ Legislative Latino Caucus released the following statement after an ICE agent fatally shot Renee Nicole Good, an unarmed woman and US citizen, in Minneapolis. According to reports, Good had just dropped her six year old son off at school when she encountered ICE agents.

“Our hearts are with the Minneapolis community, the loved ones of Renee Nicole Good, and every family impacted by ICE operations that put communities in harm’s way across this country. Renee’s death was not an isolated incident. It reflects a broader pattern that endangers lives, separates families, and leaves lasting harm.”

“There is no excuse for this emboldened and unrestrained conduct that is eroding our democracy, dignity, and trust in government every day. Individuals hiding behind masks and unmarked cars, violating civil rights, and operating with no accountability or proper training do not make our communities safer. They instill fear, division, and inhumanity that tear our neighborhoods apart.”

“NJ is one of the most diverse states in the nation, home to immigrants from every corner of the world—citizens and non-citizens alike. Our communities are strong, our voices matter, and we will continue to stand together for safety, dignity, and justice for all. We do not want ICE in our communities.”
